Fake Snow Recipe

20131219-230404.jpg
Hola! From Ballerina Barbie on the puffy white slopes of Canadian Snow .. Fake Snow that is!

We got this fool proof Indoor Homemade Sensory Snow recipe of fun, for many cold winter afternoons, via Mommas Fun World!

Ready for the RECIPE:  get your notebooks!

– Baking Soda and

– Conditioner!

Amazing eh? Take a peek through at her recipe here for measurement numbers, because I altered mine by eye and it worked perfectly for us.

By the fire

A perfect winter scene with the rooster warming by the Barbie firepit

*TIP  I would chose a white or clear conditioner. A pleasant smelling one as well, or scent-free, sensitive for those with skin allegies. LO has sensitive skin but for the amount she got outside of on her hands, it caused no disruptions to the rest of her body ;D

Ballerina Barbie

Best shot! Ballerina Barbie, perfectly brozed, in swimsuit, classic wave, in the snow! Love this shot!

Went to the local Loblaws (large grocery chain for you not in Canada) straight to the CLEARANCE section (as I ususally do .. shhh… lol) and search you will find one. The alternative is chekc the regular shelving for SALE items. I found ours there, a name brand for $1.63! BAM! What a steal.

Firstly, we don’t have a huge table space to play with this messy stuff, so we lay down an old sheet; lay the RubberMaid Bin lid on top of the kid size table. Turn the lid upside down and voila–>a protective ledge for no spill overs. I do suggest a space that can get messy and is rather simple to clean. TIP*  I keep our floor vaccuum in livingroom on days of indoor play for quick clean ups.

the snow queens treasure crystals

“MLP” treasure chest filled with clear tiny diamond shaped pieces -AKA- “the Snow Queens Treasure crystals” dug out, found buried in the snow ;)

I’m real sorry about the foggy image quality. iPhone 4S is my only digital camera device (for now). Plus, I think the glimmer off the foil didnt help in its inability to focus clearly!

TIP*  I used aluminum foil to cover the play surface under the fake snow, on the bin lid, to create the illusion of more snow! Adds to the glimmer in the natural light, like real fresh fallen snow. First time we addedsome silver glitter.

This last (3rd) time we played with it (as I only have 1 youngster), we added blue food colouring because we were throwing it away. This mixture sat fine in the fridge for over three weeks. I left the folded foil atop, so LO could use her independent and get it from refrigerator herself :D

blue foil rink

Added the blue food coloring on the foil to create the likes of an Ice Skating Rink! Love how it worked with the ducks we chose!

The texture of this indoor snow is actually more like that of a fresh fallen powder snowfall. Now, you will not able to use cookie cutter shapes with but sometimes the fun is just in the mess-making ;)

However, we were able to pat it together like real snow. Then,

TIP*  We used buttons and other oddities to creat imprints, foot prints on the packed piles. To my surprise, LO added her smallest DollarStore farm animals for fun in the snow as well.

mr piggy

Husky was closely watching the farm animals.

Here’s Mr.Piggy eating from his ‘trough’ LOL but, I cannot find the photo of him “rolling in the snow”!

The one thing we change up is the original recipe to lower quantities a bit. The more larger mixture seems to go bad before we get alot of use out if it!

sneak peek

A wee sneak peek into the continued part of this mixture, we carried outdoors next …

One Link Friday?

Seriously, I know it's been a forever while! Truth is, we have all been battling illness since we got over Our **** Summer.
Yes!
Still!
What happened to my Onward and Upward?
I am afraid, I am still asking myself…??

***Even better still, THIS is LAST Friday’s Post lol! ***

Our little family has been facing thee ultimate worst bout of sicknesses over the last two months, that we as an entire family unit have never experienced before; and of which no one can explain….I have just come out of the hospital again, this time only for some oxygen with my new found partner: Pneumonia. I fear however, that Wednesday nights visit is somehow not my last during this … affair. The children are also still sick. LO handling it best, and TEEN handling LO best (for the minimal help she can offer herself).

Anyway, so there’s the reason you guys haven’t heard from us. I am sooo sick. With 2 children completely alone, rest and getting well is very hard to come by. Lately, I have had to my best begging for a rest relief period for (at least) an hour and mainly only, from my one parent/friend/family (only person I know, closely enough) here in the neighbourhood, besides my fantastic neighbors down the way. Don’t like asking them for help a lot because let’s face it, I basically have to live with them lol. Plus, they already hugely stepped up too when had my meningitis!

My mom is also a single handed home owner and full time employed healthy superhero. She has to sail her own boat too. Thankfully, she can usually grab the generally needed stuff when sick like this, an ambulance, 2 kids, coffee, & some hospital masks stuffed in her purse. She’s not handling it well and is seemingly on the verge of seriously cutting me and my children out of her life completely. I mean it! And I don’t blame her one bit! (for this anyway)! I am beyond sick and tired, and eons passed my last nerve.

Enough of my rambling, here’s last weeks…

This first string art pumpkin is my favorite. I am really loving this technique seen in many different DIY settings as of late but, I just don’t seem to have all tools needed (as usual lol)!

However … LO & I (mom) have Sinus Infections (cant hear see smell taste eat grrrrrr!), and TEEN has mystery illness. My teen, now known as “mystery girl“–had her first (mystery illness) with no diagnosis at 6, we haven't stopped calling her that. She always seems to catch the germs no Pediatric Specialist could even decifer the code for. Well, now “mystery girl” has done it again. Obvious results from Doctor yesterday showing signs of infection, duh; of course a slight positive for Mononeucleosis at ER Doctor today; whom is sending her tomorrow to Pediatrician Hospital Doctor, 45 minutes away.

Did I mention how incredibly excited LO & I sick as dogs are to get dragged along during all these snot filled horrible boring hospital trips. Not that I really care however, becuase someone better get to the bottom of this illness! It's getting exhausting especially for TEEN whom just wants to feel better yesterday… ;(

What we did at our house this Season, was buy a large bag of small pumpkins. Due to the illnesses I’ve had to think “inside the box” (“inside the house” that is); finding various creations to share. OK, NOW Get your pumpkins ready becuase I have a lot more links I will be sharing with you over the weekend!

Come back and share Your Link in Comments of your fantastically healthy weekend creations, how-to guides, your own tutorials, a pumpkin DIY you’ve got to try; I dare to share!

Oh yeah, sniff sniff *ouch* here's the inspiration. Photos aren't mine, I don't steal, credit through links ACHOO!

Onward and Upward .. I Pray

Here’s the plan:  short and sweet, lotsa-links, inspiration, and to the point! Lets see how well I do. Just don’t grade me on this paper ok!? After our summer of personal series of unfortunate events, I have promised the next post would be of enlightenment to the lessons I have take from those **** experiences

The first thing is, I have learned that I can do stuff. I can do DIYs! I don’t just pin them, share them, or tweet them anymore! I have actively taken part in my own role of DIY’er. So much so I started at the top, with an IKEA Hack!

“What’s an IKEA hack J9?!” You ask.

“A Closet On a Bookcase?” first step was to turn closet on it’s side –that’s when they lost me!

Well, the way I see it is:  Think about IKEA first. In and of itself the thought just scares me. Then, remember the last item-to-build you purchased there. Recall the three ‘life-lines’ you were given upon starting the put-together-project, going into it alone, and sit in that fear for a moment….Then, when you’ve returned from rocking like a baby in the corner over there, and removed your thumb from your mouth, read on. The instructions, piece count, directions, countless trips back to the store for missing items, estimated time of six hours work in reality it’s six days (for me), and you’ve got The first word understood:  “IKEA” right

An IKEA Hack above is a mixture of that horror, picture it:  and Dr. Suess on some elicit street drug, shaking his courvoisier (cognac) on the rox in hand, while slapping my fried brain around with his fatal cocktail, scorching me with an evil laughter … it all causes my poor head to ache…However, I just fell into my ‘hack’ by accident. (I don’t self-created suffering anymore)

Here are some photos from the beginning of my DIY career. (Promise not to laugh too hard) From Instagram

This is the way were headed with the shoe rack turned towel rack hack for our bathroom. I am not sure exactly how or where, but I will be using this type of coloring pattern.

The good news continues from the **** summer, to the white walled blank canvas we now have to work with for our interior decor. TEEN and I are so used to moving our entire lives (unfortunately for whatever reasons..), that we barely sleep in the same bed every night. Around the one year & a half mark there’s an ‘itch’ I get inside, that causes me to look at moving. NO MORE. Since LO, thats against the rules”–like I always say to her, lol.

The remaining images are designs by others I have sourced on Etsy and Pinterest, are the inspirational creators of the new DIY sensation I feel in my bones as of late. Colour seems to be the main focus. Follow each of the photo links to their (Pinterest) pins.

Unfortunately,I couldn’t find my link to this one. However, its listed in my favorites on my Etsy Profile (link above & sidebar to follow me there)! I thought I would try this one as a DIY project actually, with some fantastic washi tape from Pretty Tape. A fav from Dallas, TX on line. The following photos are the same idea (DIY). Now that Im an expert, you’ll have to come back to check up on our progress :D

However, I prefer ours to look not so perfect–like these:

Follow link to source for better image sizes.

This last one I prefer above all. I prefer to add little treasuries and pieces we’ve collected on our travels, to the frames. A paper flower TEEN created here (like yellow below), a photo LO painted or ripped and glued there–adding it to the personality of our DIY Washi Tape Photo Framed Wall art.

I soo look forward to connecting again soon. Leave behind some inspirational DIY projects you’re involved in or excited about. I am always on a hunt for encouragement and simple step by step tutorials LOL!! OK, Much to be done around here. At least its not cleaning up *** anymore!

Blessings and Wonderous Weekends to you All,
